Con la Palma d’oro Anora e Sean Baker in competizione rispettivamente per miglior film e miglior regia sembrava una serata abbastanza certa quella dei Gotham Awards 2024, che hanno aperto la stagione dei premi a New York, il 2 dicembre. Eppure, per il cinema indipendente della East Coast non tutto funziona come a Hollywood. E Anora è tornata a casa a mani vuote
Sono arrivate, infatti, le prime graditissime sorprese, a partire dal trionfo di A Different Man con Sebastian Stan e quello di Ramell Ross, regista di Nickel Boys, alla miglior regia. Più problematico, invece, è il risultato delle categorie attoriali che, non più divise per genere ai Gotham, finiscono – consapevolmente o meno – per premiare più gli uomini: tre categorie su tre, se si esclude il premio speciale ad Angelina Jolie.
